The Importance of Water Quality in Your Home and Workplace

Health Benefits, Hard Water, Taste Difference

Do you know what’s in your water?

Many people don’t think about it until they start having problems. Poor water quality in your home or workplace can cause a host of problems. Not only can it affect your health, it can affect the taste and appearance of the water you’re regularly drinking, bathing in, washing your clothing or dishes with, or using to clean surfaces.

The Affect On Your Health

Water quality is important for many reasons. It’s essential for both your health and the functionality of your home. Poor water quality can cause a number of health problems, including:

  • Gastrointestinal illness
  • Skin infections
  • Respiratory diseases

Poor water quality can lead to a variety of skin issues, including:

  • Dry skin
  • Itching
  • Rashes
  • Acne
  • Eczema

In addition to causing skin problems, poor water quality can also lead to respiratory diseases. These include:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Lung cancer

Depending on the severity of your water problem, you may be at risk for these and other respiratory diseases.

The Affect On your water

Water quality is also important for taste and appearance. Think about where your water comes from and how far it has to travel to reach your tap. As water moves through the pipeline, it collects contaminants like bacteria, chlorine, heavy metals such as lead and mercury, pesticides, waste particles, fluorine compounds, and more. It also collects minerals such as calcium and magnesium. When you have water that is high in dissolved minerals it is referred to as “hard water,” which can taste bitter or salty. It can also cause problems with cooking and cleaning because hard water leaves behind a film of residue, or soap scum, and requires more soap to get things clean.

Hard water can be caused by a number of factors, including:

  • The type of water you have: Some types of water are more likely to cause hard water than others.
  • The location of your home: If you live in an area with hard water, you’re more likely to have hard water in your home.
  • The type of pipes you have: If you have copper or lead pipes, they can add minerals to your water.
  • Functional problems: Hard water can damage plumbing and appliances, and can make cleaning difficult. It can also cause taste and appearance problems. Hard water can make water taste bitter, and cause staining on fixtures and clothing.

Concerned about Water Quality?

If you’re concerned about the quality of your water, there are a few things you can do to improve it. One option is to install a water filtration system in your home. This will remove impurities from your water, making it safer to drink and use. Another option is to get a water softener. This will remove the minerals that cause hard water, making it easier on your plumbing and appliances. It can also improve the taste of your water.

Don’t take your water for granted! Be sure to take steps to ensure that it is safe, clean, and tastes good. Your health and your home will thank you for it.
